Once long ago the city was filled with Elves, vampires, Rahja, and human. All the races lived in harmony for centuries, creating a heaven for all. The city was beautiful and the races were happy. Then one day wanderers came from the east, they were tall and beautiful and quickly entranced the city. They called themselves the Elders and took over the city, completely hypnotizing all the creatures so that when the city fell no one fought or challenged them until it was too late. They drove the vampires and elves into the Timberline, forcing them too vanish and become myths. They allowed the Rahja to stay, but as servants to the humans. The humans were modified until they all looked like the Elders, tall, beautiful, dazzling. The city soon forgot it's earlier and greater history, remembering only the Elders. The Elders came to completely control the city, nothing went on that they were not aware of. Then one of the Elders recovered her mind, broke free of the singled minded focus of the Elders. She ran into the forest, finding refuge with the Elves. The Elders were so shocked by this betrayal that all the humans, all the Rahja were kept inside the city, keeping them from thinking like errant Elder. The centuries passed and the legends were buried under the Elder's half stories. When a young vampire discovered the truth five centuries after the take over the city was weak and everyone believed the Elder's stories. Carl's only hope was to find a human, mistreated and alone, willing to listen. He had found her, now he just needed to convince Raina to trust her.
